Totally Bound speaks to Crissy Smith about Designated Alpha, the newest addition to the What's her Secret? imprint.
What can we expect from Designated Alpha?
Wow! What can I say about this book? First let me start by saying that if you haven’t read anything by me before I would start with Designated Alpha. If you’re already a fan, Thank you, and I think you’ll really enjoy the twists I’ve written into this story. I am probably most proud of Designated Alpha out of all my releases this year. It was a labor of love that I put everything I had inside.
There’s not a boring moment in this story. From the first page you’ll be drawn into Piper and Jace’s story and I can guarantee you won’t want to put it down. The relationship heats up the pages, the secondary characters steal the show, and there are two major plot twists that will have you on the edge of your seat. This wild ride will grip you tight and never want to let you go.
Designated Alpha charts Jace and Piper’s relationship after their HEA. Is it important for you to explore the longevity in your characters’ relationships?
How often to you finish a book, take a long deep breath, and then search the internet to see if the author has written a sequel or a free addition? Anything, that has the same characters in it? Well, the answer to that for me is all the dang time! This is the very first time that I’ve been able to offer my readers a chance to go back and see what happens after they closed the book. Last Call—the short story that introduced us to Jace and Piper, was a very fun book to write, but Designated Alpha takes everything up to a whole new level. The action is amplified and their relationship is sizzling. Once we’ve met our soulmate our story doesn’t end, and it didn’t for Jace and Piper either. Piper’s secret isn’t one that can be solved in a few thousand words. She needed this full length novel to show what she’s made of. Strength and Determination.
Piper has very modest desires for a happy, simple life for her and Jace. Fate comes along and disrupts that ideal! Do you enjoy writing stories where your characters’ have to overcome obstacles?
I always knew that Piper wouldn’t have an easy time or an easy life. She’s such a strong woman and although I felt bad for all the obstacles I put in front of her, it was actually what Piper needed to feel fulfilled. She’s meant to battle and fight for herself and others. She’s a warrior in her own right. She might have thought she wanted a simple life for her and Jace—but she wouldn’t have been truly happy with that.
The majority of your backlist are shifter stories, what is it about shifters that you love to write?
I have always been attracted to shifter stories as a reader and so when I decided to try my hand at writing it was an obvious place to start. I like the idea that there is more out there than just the ordinary lives that people are leading. If I had a choice, I would pick the ability to become a shifter above all other ‘special powers.’ It’s just what calls to me. I never set out to base my books in the shifter world but once I got started writing those stories I couldn’t stop. Even now, when planning my future books and schedule for the next few years, my submission plans are full of shifters. There are still more stories to tell.
How did you get into writing erotic romance?
When picking my next book to read I always preferred the authors that added a little heat to the scenes. When I found eBooks I was really thriller to discover erotic romance. No more did I have to imagine what happened behind those closed doors. It was right there in black and white. So why not give that a try too when I started my first manuscript? I did just that and haven’t l
ooked back since. This is my adult version of happily ever after.
What can we expect from you next with Totally Bound?
Both of my series with Totally Bound are going strong and I have a lot more in store for this year. The Shifter Chronicles book four, Coyote’s Kiss, is releasing at the end of the month and continues the series’ high action and hot couples. In Coyote’s Kiss, the Shifter Coalition teams up with the FBI and ATF to find out what is happening to missing shifters who had been working for the government.
My long running series, the Were Chronicles, is still drawing new readers in and as we hit book thirteen this series promises to end on a high note. With fifteen books scheduled for this series we’re close to seeing the end of this paranormal world. Book thirteen will be published in September and you won’t want to miss the last three books. There are huge things coming for our wolf shifters so stay tuned for some exciting news!
