My name badge says ‘Marnie Fitzpatrick’ and my thumb is hot and throbbing from where I stabbed myself with the pin. “Uh-oh, gonna be one of those nights,” I tell myself, sucking irritatedly on the tiny wound. Immediately, I’m reprimanded by the better inner-half of me saying, Hey, everything’s cool, Marnie. If you think you’re going to screw up, you will. De-eep breath, babes.
Well, I say better half, but she’s really more like an eighth, or a twenty-fifth, or even a hundredth on a bad day. Nonetheless, I listen to her because she’s bossy and she does talk sense.
De-eep breath.
I lean closer to the restroom mirror, correct a smudge of mascara then straighten to inspect my reflection.
Straggly auburn hair swept back into a nice, neat tail, check.
Skin matte, and lipstick on lips rather than on teeth, check.
Crisp white blouse marked by a miniscule spot of blood, check.
Dark band of water across front of too-tight, too-grey pencil skirt from where I just leaned against the marble washbasin counter without realising it was wet, check.
Damn it! All my life, friends have called me Marnie Klutzpatrick, and you can hardly blame them. But tonight, I’m clearly gearing up to hyper-klutz mode because Dr Patrick Redman, The Travelling TV Vet, will be here to launch his book based on the popular series of the same name. I’ve spent so many evenings drooling over him on screen, and swooning at his skill in returning animals to health. Hard to believe that tonight I’ll actually see him in the flesh. My heart keeps racing at the thought of being in the same room as him, breathing the same air. He’s such an incredible man—generous, daring, kind and gentle. And hot, too. Did I mention the hot?
Dolly Watt has been spinning saucy stories in her head for over a decade but has only recently sat down at a keyboard and allowed her imagination to run riot. And oh boy, does it run!
Dolly (Dolores for long) lives in rural Sussex with her handsome husband, their two kids, and a growing menagerie of pets in a house she describes as ‘shabby chic’ in the hope of convincing herself it doesn’t resemble an explosion at a jumble sale.
Dolly loves writing character-driven erotic romance with a side order of kink and laughter.
Dolly is working on a number of short stories while the house falls down around her, and the children turn feral.
